Furhaven's sofa bed is the notable exception: there's an actual foam slab under your dog, certified through the CertiPUR-US program (which covers foam content and emissions), with fiber-filled bolsters sewn around three sides. That construction is the same basic architecture as beds costing three times as much. The egg-crate texture on the standard version distributes weight and lets a little air move under a warm sleeper, and the bolsters give lean-against dogs the back contact they want.

The design detail we like most for short-legged breeds is the open front. There's no rim to hop over — the entry edge sits low, so a dachshund, corgi, or senior small dog steps in rather than climbing in. Vets commonly recommend keeping jumping and climbing to a minimum for long-backed breeds, and a bed your dog can walk into flat is a small, cheap way to follow that advice. Sizing note: Furhaven's sizes run snug because the bolsters eat into the interior. Measure your dog stretched out and compare against the sleeping-surface dimension in the listing; a 10–12 pound mini dachshund fits the Small, but if your dog sleeps fully extended, the next size up is money well spent — for bigger dogs, definitely size up.

But those are the right corners to cut.
