Furhaven Orthopedic CertiPUR-US Sofa-Style Dog Bed (Small) Review

Real foam support, a three-sided bolster, and a washable cover for the price of a large pizza.

The verdict

Furhaven's sofa-style bed is the value pick in small-dog beds because it delivers the two things that matter โ€” foam support underneath and bolsters around the edge โ€” at a price where you can put one in every room. The CertiPUR-US certified foam base takes pressure off joints better than any fiber-filled bed, the open front edge means no climbing for short legs, and the cover zips off for the wash. The foam is thinner than premium beds and the cover fabric is more functional than fancy, but at this price those are trades worth making.

What we like

  • +CertiPUR-US certified foam base gives real pressure relief, not just padding
  • +Three-sided bolster design leaves the front edge low and open โ€” no climbing for short-legged dogs
  • +Removable cover is machine washable
  • +Bolsters work as chin rests and back support for lean-against sleepers
  • +Cheap enough to buy two โ€” one for the living room, one for the office
  • +Comes in many sizes and several foam options (egg-crate, memory foam, cooling gel)

What to know

  • โˆ’The foam base is on the thin side โ€” bigger or heavier dogs should step up a size or to a thicker-foam version
  • โˆ’Cover fabric and zipper are built to a price; wash on gentle and expect wear over a couple of years
  • โˆ’Sizing runs snug โ€” measure your dog stretched out and compare against the listed sleep surface, not the outer dimensions

Full review

Most beds under $40 are a fabric bag of polyester fluff. Furhaven's sofa bed is the notable exception: there's an actual foam slab under your dog, certified through the CertiPUR-US program (which covers foam content and emissions), with fiber-filled bolsters sewn around three sides. That construction is the same basic architecture as beds costing three times as much. The egg-crate texture on the standard version distributes weight and lets a little air move under a warm sleeper, and the bolsters give lean-against dogs the back contact they want.

The design detail we like most for short-legged breeds is the open front. There's no rim to hop over โ€” the entry edge sits low, so a dachshund, corgi, or senior small dog steps in rather than climbing in. Vets commonly recommend keeping jumping and climbing to a minimum for long-backed breeds, and a bed your dog can walk into flat is a small, cheap way to follow that advice. Sizing note: Furhaven's sizes run snug because the bolsters eat into the interior. Measure your dog stretched out and compare against the sleeping-surface dimension in the listing; a 10โ€“12 pound mini dachshund fits the Small, but if your dog sleeps fully extended, the next size up is money well spent โ€” for bigger dogs, definitely size up.

Where the budget shows: the foam is thinner than what you'll find in the PetFusion below, so a heavy dog or a serious arthritis case deserves the upgrade, and the cover fabric and zipper are functional rather than luxurious โ€” wash on the gentle cycle and treat the zipper kindly. But those are the right corners to cut. For a young or mid-weight small dog, this bed does 85% of what the premium options do at a third of the price, and being cheap enough to buy in pairs means your dog gets a proper bed in every room they nap in.

Best for: Anyone who wants genuine foam support and a washable cover without spending premium-bed money โ€” especially for multi-bed households.
