Who runs this site

Max the Mini Ween is published by KosWebDev, a small independent US web studio — and supervised, with great intensity, by Max, a miniature dachshund. Our reviews are research-driven: we work from manufacturer spec sheets and documentation, size charts, materials and safety information, and thousands of aggregated owner reviews — then score every product against the rubric below. We don't accept review units or payments from brands.

Max's role

Some of the gear we cover lives in our house and gets used by Max daily. Those products carry a 🐾 Max Testedchip and a "Max's Field Notes" section with what months of real use actually looked like — the chewed corners, the washing-machine survivals, the beds that got adopted versus ignored. We only mark a product Max Tested when it has genuinely been through our hands (and paws). Everything else is clearly research-based.

The rubric

Every product gets a 0–10 score built from five weighted factors: fitness for the job — does it do what a bed, harness, or chew is actually for, at the sizes real dogs come in (30%); materials and durability — stitching, foam quality, chew-resistance honesty, and whether it survives a washing machine (25%); safety — fit that can't be backed out of, choke-risk sizing, non-toxic materials, crash and crate integrity (20%); ease of living with it — cleaning, folding, storage, and whether the dog willingly uses it (15%); and value and support — price against lifespan, warranty, and brand track record (10%). Scores are relative within a category: a 9.0 harness and a 9.0 treat are both excellent at their own jobs, not equivalents.

Independence

Brands do not pay for placement, cannot buy a score, and do not see reviews before publication. Rankings change when the products or prices change — not when a vendor emails us. Max cannot be bribed, though many have tried with cheese.

How we make money

When you buy through our Amazon links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model, and it only works if our recommendations keep being right. Full details in our affiliate disclosure.

Prices

Where we display an Amazon price, it comes from Amazon's product data API, is refreshed throughout the day, and is timestamped. Where we can't show a live price, we show a typical street price clearly labeled as such — the "Buy on Amazon" button always leads to the current number.

A note on health claims

We're dog people, not veterinarians. Where we touch on things like back health in long dogs, dental care, or calorie budgets, we stick to widely accepted guidance and say so — your vet knows your dog, and nothing here replaces them.
