The budget calming donut that does 90% of what the famous one does — raised rim, plush faux fur, machine washable — for noticeably less money.

Bedsure Calming Donut Dog Bed (23" Small, Camel)

The verdict

Bedsure's donut is the sharp-value pick in the calming-bed category: the same raised-rim nest shape, plush faux fur, and machine-washable build as the trend-setting original, routinely priced meaningfully lower. The 23-inch small fits dogs up to roughly 25 pounds, which gives a mini dachshund luxurious margin, and the anti-slip base keeps the whole thing from skating on hard floors during the pre-nap treading ritual. The plush fill is polyfill, not foam — fine for young, healthy curlers, less ideal for arthritic seniors who need real support. For everyone else, it's the easiest bed recommendation on this page.

Max's field notes

This was in the gotcha-day haul, and seven months later it's still where Max's serious daytime napping happens. He treads it in a circle, collapses against the rim, and disappears nose-first under the edge like the badger-hunter his ancestors intended. (Nights are a different story — he long ago promoted himself to our bed, under the covers, at knee level. Dachshund owners will understand.) The camel faux fur has been through the wash roughly monthly since January without matting, and the anti-slip bottom actually grips our floors.

What we like

  • +Classic calming-donut design — raised rim to lean into, plush center to burrow against
  • +Costs noticeably less than the name-brand equivalent with comparable build quality
  • +The whole 23" bed is machine washable and dryer safe on gentle settings
  • +Anti-slip dotted bottom stays planted on hardwood during the circling ritual
  • +23" small fits up to ~25 lb — generous for a mini dachshund, right for most small breeds
  • +Multiple sizes and colors, so the same bed scales to bigger dogs and pickier decor

What to know

  • Polyfill construction flattens over time under nightly use — fluff it like a pillow to revive the loft
  • Self-warming plush runs warm; hot-natured dogs may sleep beside it in summer
  • No removable cover on the small sizes — the whole bed goes in the wash
  • Not a chew-proof design; rim seams won't survive a dedicated shredder

Full review

The calming-donut category has a famous original and a hundred knockoffs, and Bedsure sits in the narrow band between them: a genuinely well-made version of the design at a price that undercuts the original by enough to matter. The shape is the whole point — a raised, stuffed rim circling a soft center — because it matches how small dogs actually sleep. A curler presses their spine against the rim; a burrower shoves their nose under the edge; an anxious dog gets the pressure-against-the-body contact that the 'calming' marketing gestures at. No bed shape suits a dachshund's instincts better, and the 23-inch small gives a 10–13 lb dog room to do all of it, or to flatten out entirely on a warm afternoon.

Livability is where budget beds usually fail, and this one mostly doesn't. The entire small bed goes into the washing machine and comes out intact — run it monthly and the faux fur stays plush rather than matting into felt. The dotted anti-slip base earns its keep with the breed that treads six circles before every nap; on hardwood, a bed without grip ends up in a different room by Friday. The camel colorway has the additional virtue of hiding the fine short hairs a smooth-coated dog sheds. What you give up against the premium original is mostly fill density and the little details — the rim is slightly less structured, and there's no removable-cover option at this size.

The fill is the honest limitation. Like nearly every donut bed, this is polyfill through and through, which means it compresses over months of nightly use and needs a pillow-style re-fluff to revive — and it means the bed offers softness, not orthopedic support. A young, healthy small dog doesn't care. A stiff senior or a dog with joint trouble should be on solid foam instead (see the PetFusion above), possibly with a donut kept as the daytime lounging spot. Buy it for the curl, the burrow, and the wash cycle, and at this price it's the best value in the category.

Best for: Curlers and burrowers under 25 pounds whose humans want the calming-donut experience without the name-brand price.
